Deusto at the first annual meeting of MxT-Municipalities for Tolerance

To mark the celebration of the Day for Tolerance (16 November) and within the framework of the Municipalities for Tolerance programme, the 1st Annual MxT Meeting was held to highlight the importance of Tolerance and the role of City Councils in the recognition of human rights and the fundamental freedoms of all people. Political and technical representatives from 16 city councils (Barcelona, Bilbao, Burgos, Cartagena, Castelló, Collado Villalba, Fuenlabrada, Guadalajara, La Almunia de Doña Godina, Lorca, Málaga, Olivenza, Sabadell, Valencia, Valladolid and Vitoria-Gasteiz) took part in this meeting, held at the FEMP headquarters. Eduardo J. Ruiz Vieytez and Gorka Urrutia Asua, lecturers at the University of Deusto, led the workshop entitled "Claves para políticas locales inclusivas con la diversidad religiosa", as part of the meeting’s programme.

Municipalities for Tolerance (MxT) is a programme to help local governments manage religious diversity in a democratic, inclusive and plural way. It aims to raise the visibility of local councils' commitment to applying the basic principles and objectives in the management of religious diversity contained in a Charter. It also provides the signatory municipalities with the necessary tools and resources to improve their day-to-day management of this reality. It is an initiative of the Pluralism and Coexistence Foundation in collaboration with the Spanish Federation of Municipalities and Provinces and the support of the University of Deusto's Human Rights Institute.
